Hi,

I've been searching for software to control the EKD-500 (http://kahuna.sdsu.edu/~mechtron/PremRxPage/ekd500.htm)

Since I didn't find anything to control that radio (except some Wintendo progs) I'm considering to do something about that. ;)

Is there a nice and comprehensive info on how to implement support for an RX like that into hamlib? (that topic wasn't covered in the FAQ) I can get the exact specs for the protocol used by this RX. (seems to be 7N1 via RS232)

CC to PM would be appreciated - because I'm not (yet) a member of this list.

Halo Thomas,

Thanks for your interest in Hamlib. Our project welcomes all those
premium radios. Who knows what one can find at a hamfest swapmeeting?

The Hamlib doc can be scarce sometimes, but to make things easier for
you, I've declared a new backend for the EKD-500. The backend name is
"rft". Have a look at the rft/rft.c file. It's checked in in CVS.
You just have to fill in the blanks :)
BTW, are you familiar with CVS? Do you prefer a snapshot package (tgz)
instead?

Before diving into the code, I would recommand you the reading
of the following docs:

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/hamlib/hamlib/README.betatester?rev=1.4&content-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/hamlib/hamlib/README.developer?rev=1.15&content-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup

Feel free to ask any question.

73,
Stephane

PS: a skeleton TAPR(DSP10) backend has been checked in along the way.
Any takers? This puppy would mate very well with the gnuradio backend.

MNI TNX! That's very kind of you! :)
(Saves me from figuring out what files should go where) ;)

Ummmh, I've been checking out stuff from CVS for another project. Anyway it should be no problem that can't be solved by RTFMing a bit into "man cvs".

TNX I will if I encounter any problems.

Work on this Project will probably start after my exams (18th October)
